EFFECT OF ALTERNATE PARTIAL ROOT ZONE DRIP IRRIGATION AND MULCHING ON ZUCCHINI CIGR Journal
Imam, Hisham Mohamed.
Innovative irrigation agricultural and irrigation strategies are desirable in the face of dwindling water resources and increasing demand for food, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. The presented work investigated the effect of both  Alternate Partial Root-Zone Drying (APRD), mulching and drip irrigation system type on yield productivity and water use efficiency of Zucchini. Field experiments were conducted at Testing and Research Station for Tractors and Farm Machinery, Alexandria Governorate. The experimental treatments were: two types of irrigation management (full and APRD), and two soil covering (plastic mulching and without plastic mulch) under both surface and subsurface drip irrigation systems. The soil electrical conductivity was 8.19...

Spectral indices for the detection of salinity effects in melon plants Scientia Agricola
Hernández,Encarni I.; Melendez-Pastor,Ignacio; Navarro-Pedreño,Jose; Gómez,Ignacio.
Water scarcity and soil salinization affect large semiarid agricultural areas throughout the world. The maintenance of agricultural productivity implies better agricultural practices and a careful selection of resistant crops. A proper monitoring of the physiological status of plants can lead to better knowledge of plant nutritional requirements. Visible and near-infrared (VNIR) radiometry provides a non-destructive and quantitative method to monitor vegetation status by quantifying chemical properties using spectroscopic techniques. In this study, the capability of VNIR spectral measurements to detect salinity effects on melon (Cucumis melo L.) plants was tested. Melon plants were cultivated under multiple soil salinity conditions (electrical...

THE EFFECT OF COMPOST AND SEWAGE SLUDGE ON SOIL BIOLOGIC ACTIVITIES IN SALT AFFECTED SOIL R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Lakhdar,Abdelbasset; Scelza,Rosalia; Scotti,Riccardo; Rao,Maria A; Jedidi,Naceur; Gianfreda,Liliana; Abdelly,Chedly.
Saline soil was amended with 13.3 and 26.6 g kg-1 of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) compost or sewage sludge, and arylsulphatase (ARY), phosphatase (PHO), dehydrogenase (DEH), (β-glucosidase ((β-GLU), urease (URE) and catalase (CAT) activities as well as physical-chemical properties were determined after 70 day of incubation under laboratory conditions. MSW compost and sewage sludge significantly improved soil physical-chemical properties, especially carbon and nitrogen contents. Accordingly, overall enzyme activities were substantially promoted in presence of both amendments and the higher increases were measured at 13.3 g kg-1 of MSW compost (increases by 107%, 43%, 20%, 11%, and 148% for, DEH, (3-GLU, PHO, URE, and CAT, respectively)....

Rice growth and yield are adversely affected by soil salinity. The application of organic matter is a successful technique for saline soil remediation. The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of different organic materials on the response of rice in saline soil. Experimental design was a randomized complete block with 4 replicates comprised 4 treatments: 1) no organic material application (control) 2) sesbania application at the rate of 1,000 kg/rai 3) rice straw application at the rate of 1,000 kg/rai and 4) sesbania at the rate of 500 kg/rai and rice straw at the rate of 500 kg/rai. The result were shown that sesbania and rice straw treatment had the highest rice dry weight in all growth stages, the highest nutrient uptake at booting stage,...

Soil salinity is a major problem in the use and management of agricultural in Thailand. Especially in the northeast, those have the lack of natural fertility. Many studies found that the use of organic material can reduce the salinity of the soil. The experiment was conducted with two organic materials, there are rice straw and sunn hemp incorporation with no-tillage system. Experimental design was a randomize complete block with 4 replicates comprised 6 treatments: 1) conventional tillage, 2) tillage with sunn hemp incorporation, 3) tillage with rice straw incorporation, 4) no-tillage, 5) no tillage with sunn hemp mulching and6) no tillage with rice straw mulching. Soil samples were collected in two peried of rice cultivation; before transplant and two...

Thailand is a country located on the tropical agriculture. Natural soil fertility is low. Low organic matter content. Due to the rapid degradation of the heat and humidity. Therefore, the concept adding of organic material and reduced tillage to improve soil properties for the better. The study on the effects of tillage systems on changes in soil chemical properties of rice. The experimental design was Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) 5 treatments. 1) tillage (control) 2) tillage with sunnhemp incorporation 3) tillage with rice straw incorporation 4) no tillage with sunn hemp mulching 5) no tillage with rice straw mulching. Soil samples were collected during the period, before transplant and 2 weeks after harvest. The soil reaction, electrical...
